The New York-aimed comedy, Miss Abigail's Guide to Dating, Mating and Marriage, based on the book by Abigail Grotke, begins its world premiere engagement June 9 in Tampa, FL.

Altar Boyz creator Ken Davenport, who co-authored the comedy with Sarah Saltzberg, directs the premiere that runs through July 3 at the Straz Center. Miss Abigail is expected to make her New York bow this fall.

Laurie Birmingham stars the title role, with Mauricio Perez (Altar Boyz Off-Broadway) as Paco.

According to producers, "Let Miss Abigail take you back to a simpler time, before booty calls, when the divorce rate wasn't 50 percent and when fidelity was more than an investment firm! During this 90-minute comedy, Miss A will show you how to have the perfect kiss, what you should (and should not) talk about on a date, and how to let a man think he wears the pants."

The production has scenic design by Scott Cooper, lighting design by Joseph P. Oshry and costume design by Rick Criswell.

Davenport's Off-Broadway projects include Altar Boyz, My First Time and The Awesome 80's Prom. He is currently developing the film "Somewhere in Time" as a stage musical. He has also produced Oleanna, Blithe Spirit, You're Welcome America and 13 on Broadway.

Tickets, priced $29.50, are available by phoning (813) 229-7827 or by visiting StrazCenter.
