Billy Elliot to Play Toronto and San Fran Following Chicago; Second Tour to Launch in Durham

Universal Pictures Stage Productions, Working Title Films and Old Vic Productions in association with Weinstein Live Entertainment announced July 7 that the first national tour of Billy Elliot the Musical — the 2009 Tony Award-winning Best Musical featuring music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreography by Peter Darling and direction by Stephen Daldry — will play its final performance in Chicago Jan. 15, 2011, at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre.

This production will then be presented in Toronto as part of the 2010-2011 Mirvish Subscription Season: Performances will begin Jan. 28, 2011, at the Canon Theatre (244 Victoria Street). Following the Canadian run, the hit musical will be presented in San Francisco as part of the 2010-2011 SHN Best of Broadway season: Performances will begin Sept. 13, 2011, at the Orpheum Theatre (1192 Market Street).

Billy Elliot will launch a multi-year second national tour in Durham, NC, at the Triangle's DPAC Oct. 30-Nov. 14, 2010. The tour will continue to Cleveland, OH, from Nov. 19 – Dec. 12, 2010; Minneapolis, MN, from Dec. 16 – Jan. 9, 2011; Charlotte, NC, from Jan. 12 – 30, 2011; Tampa, FL, from Feb. 2 – 20, 2011; Houston, TX, from Feb. 23 – March 13, 2011; Seattle, WA, from March 17 – April 3, 2011; Portland, OR, from April 5 – 24, 2011; Tempe, AZ, from April 27 – May 8, 2011; Denver, CO, from May 11 -June 5, 2011; Dallas, TX, from June 8 – July 3, 2011; and St. Louis, MO, from Aug. 8 – 28, 2011, with more cities to be announced.

Billy Elliot the Musical, winner of ten 2009 Tony Awards, is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Jon Finn and Sally Greene. Angela Morrison and David Furnish are executive producers. The production features scenic design by Ian MacNeil, costume design by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting design by Rick Fisher and sound design by Paul Arditti. Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Martin Koch. The associate director is Julian Webber.
