Grey will sing Cole Porter show tunes along with the previously announced Tony winner Sutton Foster, who'll play singing evangelist Reno Sweeney. Additional casting will be announced.
Previews begin March 10, 2011, at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Official opening is April 7, 2011. A pre-sale for American Express cardholders begins Oct. 4. The public on sale date is Oct. 10.
The new Broadway production of the 1934 musical comedy (gussied up in the 1980s by book writers Timothy Crouse & John Weidman) will be directed and choreographed by Tony winner Kathleen Marshall (The Pajama Game, Wonderful Town).
His non-musical stage credits include John Guare's Marco Polo Sings a Solo (1975) at the Public Theater; the title role in the Williamstown Theatre Festival production of Chekhov's Platonov (1978); Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart (1986) at the Public Theater; Herringbone at the Hartford Stage (1992), and more.
The Anything Goes creative team includes Rob Fisher (music supervisor) and designers Derek McLane (sets), Martin Pakledinaz (costumes) and Peter Kaczorowski (lights). Additional designers will be anounced shortly.
With music and lyrics by Cole Porter, original book by P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton and Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse, Anything Goes is set aboard a trans-Atlantic ocean liner where romance sprouts to the sound of "You're the Top," "Blow, Gabriel, Blow," "It's De-Lovely," "I Get A Kick Out of You" and "Anything Goes," among other Porter classics.
Foster won her Tony as Best Actress in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Her Broadway credits include Princess Fiona in Shrek: The Musical (Tony nomination), Inga in Young Frankenstein, Janet Van De Graaff in The Drowsy Chaperone (Tony nomination) and Jo March in Little Women: The Musical (Tony nomination).
