The ten-week Broadway engagement was a summer stop for the current national tour of Hair, which launched in fall 2010. The return engagement began previews July 5 and officially opened July 13. The tour is scheduled to continue across the U.S. with stops planned in Dallas, Denver, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Toronto.
Tony Award nominee Diane Paulus directs the production, which has choreography by Tony nominee Karole Armitage.
The revival of Hair began life in 2007 as a special 40th anniversary concert staging at the Delacorte Theater. In 2008 the Public mounted Hair as part of Shakespeare in the Park, where the run was extended three times. The production transferred to Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre March 31, 2009, and concluded in June 2010. A London production opened April 14 at the Gielgud Theatre and concluded in September 2010.
When the production arrives in Dallas, TX, on Sept. 20, it will welcome Aleque Reid as Jeanie, as well as Max Kumangai and Anne Markt to the tribe. Sheik, who has been with the production since the Central Park concert, Robinson and Rose play their final performances Sept. 10.
Hair has book and lyrics by the late Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot. The Hair creative team includes set designer Scott Pask, costume designer Michael McDonald, lighting designer Kevin Adams and sound designer Acme Sound Partners.
