Subterranean — a new monthly performance party in the D-Lounge, the 75-seat cabaret located within Off-Broadway's DR2 Theatre — will begin Jan. 8, 2009.

Presented by terraNOVA Collective, the monthly party will feature a mix of performers, including those who specialize in spoken word, music, burlesque, magic and storytelling. The evenings may also feature play readings, vaudeville acts and DJs.

Kicking off the Jan. 8 Subterranean will be award-winning spoken word artist Carlos Andrés Gómez, cross-genre poetic and musical trio Mahina Movement, Trinidadian spoken word artist Lynne Procope and singer/songwriter Brent Shuttleworth. Show time is 10 PM.

In a statement terraNOVA artistic director Jennifer Conley Darling said, "TerraNOVA always strives to bring diverse performers to the stage. Subterranean consistently offers a home base for our community of artists from all genres to congregate."

Associate artistic director and Subterranean curator James Carter added, "We've loaded the kick off line up with some of New York's hottest spoken word artists and musicians. Each has a unique artistry and perspective on the world, and they touch audiences with awesome emotion."

D-Lounge is located within the DR2 Theatre at 101 East 15th Street off Union Square. There is a $10 cover charge and a one-drink minimum.
