Held at the Asia Society and Museum, the 6:30 PM evening brought together a host of Broadway performers who shared their personal "big break" experiences through story and song.
Julie Halston (The Divine Sister, Hairspray, Gypsy) hosted the gala concert that offered performances by Tony nominee Kerry Butler (Xanadu, Catch Me If You Can), Jackie Hoffman (The Addams Family, Xanadu, Hairspray), Tony nominee Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon, Jersey Boys), Andrew Samonsky (South Pacific, Queen of the Mist), Alexandra Silber (Master Class, Hello Again) and Tony nominee Mary Testa (Queen of the Mist, On the Town, Xanadu).
The Transport Group presented Beane and Flinn's pop musical Lysistrata Jones last spring at the Gym at Judson Memorial Church, Off-Broadway, prior to its transfer to the Walter Kerr Theatre, where it opens Dec. 14.
Beane is the Tony Award-nominated dramatist of Sister Act, Xanadu and The Little Dog Laughed. Composer-lyricist Flinn contributed to The Divine Sister.
The Transport Group's recent productions include five-time Tony Award nominee Michael John LaChiusa's The Queen of the Mist, The Boys in the Band, Hello Again and See Rock City and Other Destinations. Jack Cummings III is artistic director.
