The Broadway production of Catch Me If You Can concluded its run Sept. 4, 2011. Troika Entertainment presents the tour, which will feature the original Broadway production designs, direction and choreography.
Troika is also represented on the road with the Equity tour of Twyla Tharp's Come Fly Away, as well as non-Equity productions of Cats and Fiddler On the Roof.
Catch Me If You Can will launch at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, RI. The full tour itinerary is currently being set.
Unlike Broadway, a tour employing non-Equity actors and stage managers may still opt to employ union members of the American Federation of Musicians, and can still play a theatre in which stagehands who are members of IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) are employed.
Catch Me If You Can, with a score that ranged from Sinatra-styled swing to R&B, was written by Tony-winning Hairspray songwriters Marc Shaiman (music/lyrics) and Scott Wittman (lyrics) and Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally (book). Shaiman and Wittman are also the songwriters for the new NBC series "Smash."
The musical was also based on the autobiography by Frank Abagnale Jr. and Stan Redding. Aaron Tveit starred as Abagnale Jr. in the Broadway production.
Set within the frame of a 1960's television variety show, Catch Me If You Can concluded its Broadway run after 32 previews and 170 regular performances. It opened April 10, 2011, at the Neil Simon Theatre.
Catch Me If You Can earned Tony Award nominations for Best Musical, Best Actor (Norbert Leo Butz), Best Sound Design (Steve Canyon Kennedy) and Best Orchestrations (Marc Shaiman & Larry Blank). Butz took home the 2011 Best Actor Tony Award.
Much of the creative team behind the 2002 Tony Award-winning hit Hairspray reunited for Catch Me If You Can, including Tony-winning director Jack O'Brien and choreographer Jerry Mitchell.
Also on board were the original Hairspray creative team, including scenic designer David Rockwell, costume designer William Ivey Long, lighting designer Kenneth Posner and sound designer Steve Kennedy.
The 17-track original Broadway cast album of Catch Me If You Can is available from Ghostlight Records.
Catch Me If You Can, according to original Broadway press notes, "captures the astonishing true story of Frank Abagnale, Jr., a world-class con artist who passed himself off as a doctor, a lawyer, and a jet pilot — all before the age of 21. With straight-arrow FBI agent Carl Hanratty on Frank's trail, we're off on a jet-setting, cat-and-mouse chase, as a jazzy, swinging-sixties score keeps this adventure in constant motion. In the end, Agent Hanratty learns he and Frank aren't so very different after all, and Frank finds out what happens when love catches up to a man on the run."
