Tony Award nominee Kerry Butler, of Broadway's Catch Me If You Can, Hairspray and Xanadu, will complete the cast of the new Broadway production of Gore Vidal's The Best Man, producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and INFINITY Stages announced on Jan. 5.
She'll play Mabel Cantwell. Butler earned a 2008 Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for playing Kira/Clio in Xanadu.
The drama about a presidential election will begin rehearsals on Jan. 30 toward a first preview performance on March 6. Opening night is April 1 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 W. 45th Street).
"A play about power, ambition, political secrets, ruthlessness and the race for the presidency, Gore Vidal's The Best Man is set at the national convention where two candidates are vying for their party's nomination during the primary season. It's an inside look at the dirt-digging, double-dealing, triple-crossing chicanery of presidential electioneering and what could be more fun in a presidential campaign season than these theatrical fireworks."
