Randy Harrison and Bob Ari See Red at the George Street Playhouse, Opening Feb. 3

The George Street Playhouse's production of the Tony-winning John Logan play Red officially opens at the New Jersey venue Feb. 3 following previews that began Jan. 31.

Directed by Anders Cato, the production will continue through Feb. 26.

A co-production with Cleveland Playhouse, the cast features Bob Ari (Broadway's Frost/Nixon) as Rothko and Randy Harrison (Broadway's Wicked, Showtime's "Queer as Folk") as Ken.

"Lit from within and fueled by the passion of their creator, Mark Rothko's Seagrams Murals are powerful paintings of crimson, maroon and black that were intended to hang in a building designed by architectural titans," according to George Street notes. "But when a new assistant enters his studio, Rothko finds himself reconsidering the future of his works as he is confronted by the rise of the next generation."

The design team for Red includes set designer Lee Savage, costume designer Jennifer Mueller and lighting designer Dan Kotlowitz. Original music for the production was composed by sound designer Scott Killian.
