Jones was cast as the Artful Dodger in 1960 for the London premiere of Oliver! He followed the show when it traveled to Broadway in 1963, and was nominated for a Tony Award; his rousing signature number was "Consider Yourself." He was also featured in "I'd Do Anything," in which he sang alongside the characters of Fagin, Oliver, Nancy and Bet.
The performer continued to act on stage and eventually returned to Oliver! in the role of Fagin.
