Broadway's Rachel York will play Reno Sweeney in Roundabout Theatre Company's national tour of the 2011 Tony Award-winning Anything Goes, launching in Cleveland this fall.
The revival of the Cole Porter musical comedy about romance and mistaken identity on the high seas won the 2011 Tony as Best Revival, and earned director Kathleen Marshall a Best Choreography Tony.
York appeared in Broadway's City of Angels, Sly Fox, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Victor/Victoria, and was seen Off-Broadway in the Cy Coleman revue The Best Is Yet to Come. She played Lucille Ball in the TV movie "Lucy."
On tour, York created the role of Cruella de Vil in The 101 Dalmatians Musical, played Guenevere in Camelot (Carbonell Award) and was Lilli Vanessi/Kate in Kiss Me, Kate (U.S. and West End).
Following its opening at Cleveland's PlayhouseSquare in October, Anything Goes will play more than 25 other cities, including Los Angeles; Tampa, FL; Durham, NC; Pittsburgh; St. Paul, MN; Washington, DC; Costa Mesa, CA; and San Francisco. Additional cities and casting will be announced in the coming months.
The Broadway revival of the classic musical continues at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre; Stephanie J. Block and Joel Grey co-star.
