Stephen Adly Guirgis' The Motherf**ker With the Hat, the 2011 Tony Award-nominated play about "love, fidelity, and facing one's demons," will kick off the SpeakEasy season Sept. 14. Directed by David R. Gammons, the limited engagement will continue through Oct. 13. Opening night is set for Sept. 16.
Following The Motherf**ker will be Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, which will run Oct. 19-Nov. 17. The musical, which features music and lyrics by Michael Friedman and a book by Alex Timbers, will be directed by Paul Melone. Opening night is set for Oct. 21.
Bruce Norris' Pulitzer Prize-winning Clybourne Park, which can also be seen on Broadway, will have its Boston premiere beginning March 1, 2013. Directed by M. Bevin O’Gara, the play centers on race and real estate and was inspired by Lorraine Hansberry's Raisin in the Sun. Opening night is set for March 3, 2013.
Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony-winning In the Heights will conclude the season, beginning performances May 3, 2013. The musical, which features a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, will be directed by Daigneault. Opening night is set for May 5, 2013.
SpeakEasy Stage Company is the Calderwood Pavilion Resident Theatre Company at the Boston Center for the Arts. Led by artistic director Daigneault and general manager Melone, the company’s mission is to "connect, inspire and challenge its audiences with the most socially relevant theatrical premieres featuring the most talented artists in Boston."
