Joseph Medeiros and Ashley Blanchet star in Little Shop of Horrors, which puts down poisonous roots April 20 at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre.

The musical, which has music by Alan Menken, with book and lyrics by the late Howard Ashman, will run through May 20 under the direction of Kyle Hatley. Little Shop is the final production of the Rep's 2012-13 season.

Medeiros (Broadway's Guys and Dolls) plays Seymour opposite Blanchet (Memphis) as Audrey. Michael James Leslie, whose voice was heard in the 2003 Broadway revival of Little Shop, gives voice to Audrey II.

Completing the cast are Nick Cordero (The Toxic Avenger) as Orin, Eboni Fondren as Ronette, Coleen Grate as Chiffon, Jennie Greenberry as Crystal and Gary Neal Johnson as Mushnik.

Little Shop has scenic and costume design by Meghan Raham, sound design by Joshua Horvath and lighting design by Jason Lyons.

Little Shop of Horrors is based on the 1960 cult movie of the same name. The musical version debuted Off-Broadway at WPA Theatre in 1982 starring Lee Wilkoff and Ellen Greene in a role that would become her signature. A Broadway production was mounted in 2003 co-starring Hunter Foster and Kerry Butler.
