Starting 10 AM May 21, group tickets will be available to Jan. 6, 2013, and single tickets will be available to Nov. 18. Disney originally announced a 12-week limited run to June, then added 10 more weeks to Aug. 19.
The box office has boomed for the pop musical about newsboys striking against management in 1890s New York. Given that its 1992 film source was a box office flop, it was not instantly clear that the revised and refreshed stage version would catch fire at the Nederlander Theatre box office. It has. The week ending May 13, the show grossed $931,370 and played to 100.8 percent capacity. Its average ticket price was a more-than-healthy $96.63.
Newsies was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Book (Harvey Fierstein), Best Score (Jack Feldman and Alan Menken), Best Actor (Jeremy Jordan), Best Direction of a Musical (Jeff Calhoun) and Best Choreography (Christopher Gattelli).
The current cast will stay with the production.
The Broadway company of Newsies features Jeremy Jordan as Jack Kelly, John Dossett as Joseph Pulitzer, Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, Capathia Jenkins as Medda Larkin, Ben Fankhauser as Davey, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie, and Lewis Grosso, and Matthew Schechter alternating the role of Les.
