Casting has been announced for The Hollywood Bowl's upcoming production of the Tony-winning musical The Producers, which will be directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, who handled those same duties for the original Broadway production. Performances are scheduled for July 27-29.
Heading the cast will be Richard Kind as Max Bialystock and Jesse Tyler Ferguson ("Modern Family") as Leo Bloom. They will be joined by Rebecca Romijn, Tony winner Gary Beach and Tony winner Roger Bart as, respectively, Ulla, Roger De Bris and Carmen Ghia. Beach and Bart created those roles on Broadway; in fact, Beach won a Tony Award for his performance.
The creative team will also include musical director Kevin Stites.
Based on Brooks’ Oscar-winning 1968 film, the musical features a score by Mel Brooks and a book by Brooks and Thomas Meehan. The Broadway production won a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards.
"From the brilliantly comedic mind of Mel Brooks comes this insanely funny adventure – a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant concoct a get-rich scheme to bilk their investors out of millions by producing the most notorious flop in history," according to press notes.
