Banana Shpeel, the latest Cirque du Soleil production, is still ripening in New York City. The start of the vaudeville-style theatrical production with circus acts has been delayed for a third time, the producers announced on March 10.

Banana Shpeel will begin performances at the Beacon Theatre, at 2124 Broadway, on April 29 instead of March 17.

The debut was first announced for Feb. 4, then bumped to Feb. 25, then to March 17 "to integrate new performance elements." The show has been going through retooling since its world premiere in Chicago last fall.

David Shiner (star and co-creator of the Tony Award-winning Fool Moon) remains Banana Shpeel's creator, writer and director.

Banana Shpeel is billed as "a roller coaster mix of styles that blends intense choreography, crazy comedy and distinctive acrobatic acts. The show offers a diverse spectrum of performances including tap, hip-hop and eccentric dance, slapstick comedy and Cirque du Soleil acrobatic acts — plus madcap characters spreading chaos in all directions."

An official opening night date has not been announced.

Those who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster for performances through April 28 will automatically be credited the ticket price and convenience charges. The credit should post to the credit card account within 7 to 10 business days. A special discount sent via e-mail will be offered to ticket holders of cancelled dates, which will be valid for performances starting April 29.
