Tony Winner Michael McGrath Will Play Ralph in Musical Adaptation of "The Honeymooners"

Michael McGrath, who won the 2012 Best Featured Actor Tony Award for his performance in Nice Work If You Can Get It, confirmed to Playbill.com that he is attached to an upcoming musical based on the famed TV series "The Honeymooners."

McGrath, who was Tony-nominated in 2005 for his performance in Spamalot, will play Ralph, the role made famous by the late Jackie Gleason, in the upcoming project.

No official announcement about a reading or production of the musical has been made.

As previously reported, Tony winner Jerry Mitchell (Catch Me If You Can, Hairspray) directed an industry reading of The Honeymooners in June 2011. The musical was penned by Dusty Kay and Bill Nuss with a score by Stephen Weiner and Peter Mills (Iron Curtain).

McGrath, who won the Tony for his performance of Cookie McGee in the new Gershwin musical Nice Work, also offered his advice to up-and-coming performers following his win: “Perseverance,” he told the press at the 2012 awards ceremony. “The struggle defines you, really.
