LuPone, a two-time Tony winner for her performances in Evita and Gypsy, will offer Matters of the Heart Oct. 5-6. The concert will feature songs by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim as well as Randy Newman, Jimmy Webb, Brian Wilson, Judy Collins, Dan Fogelberg, Joni Mitchell and Cyndi Lauper.
Hamlisch, a Tony winner for his work on A Chorus Line, will be seen at Strathmore March 16, 2013. "In this intimate evening," according to press notes, "Hamlisch performs many of his own classics from Broadway hits like A Chorus Line and films including The Way We Were, The Sting, Sophie's Choice and more, sharing stories from his Oscar, Tony, Grammy, Emmy and Pulitzer Prize-winning career."
Other highlights of the 2012-13 season include Neil Berg's 101 Years of Broadway, featuring a cast of five Broadway stars recreating moments from the century's greatest musicals (March 24, 2013); Dein Perry's Tap Dogs, described as "part theatre, part rock concert" (Nov. 24, 2012); the whimsical production Luma Theater (Feb. 23, 2013); Cirque Ziva, a display of "gravity-defying acrobatics" (March 7, 2013); and Voca People, the a cappella theatrical event that currently plays Off-Broadway's New Word Stages (April 18, 2013).
