Part of the Dixon Place Hot! Festival – The NYC Celebration of Queer Culture, the performance will begin at 7:30 PM.
The evening will feature the talents of John Berno, Jonathan D. Lovitz (Altar Boyz), Bistro and OOBR Award winner Rob Maitner, Steven Strafford (Spamalot) and MAC and Bistro Award winner Jonathan Whitton. Adam Fitzgerald (kef theatrical productions) will direct with musical direction by Ian Wehrle.
Even for One Night, press notes state, is a theatrical event "based largely on the actual words of the late singer/songwriter and AIDS activist Michael Callen. The musical engages five actors, all of whom play Michael Callen. Michael Callen believed that he could change the world, and he did—this musical event is his story. He was a hero—and a heretic. Through Michael’s own words and music, five actors tell the story of the post-Stonewall generation of gay men and how their lives were redefined by the AIDS epidemic."
The show has been developed with the permission of Richard Dworkin, Callen's surviving partner. Among his many songs, Callen co-wrote "Love Don't Need a Reason" with Peter Allen and Marsha Malamet, which he sang at numerous gay and AIDS-related events. Callen was a founding member of the a capella group The Flirtations.
Dixon Place is located at 161A Chrystie Street, between Rivington and Delancey. Tickets for the event are $12 in advance, $15 at the door, and ticketing links and more information can be found at www.evenforonenight.com.
