The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) productions of Rio and Re-Animator The Musical have added additional performances.

Mitch Magonet and Joey Miller's Rio, which is scheduled through July 18 at The Theatre at St. Clements, has added a performance July 16 at 1 PM.

Directed by Scott Faris, the cast includes Nicholas Gonzalez, Gilbert Glenn Brown, Jose Candelaria, Nina Crupiti, Kelechi Ezie, Dennis Kenney, Tanesha Ross, Mercedes Ruiz, J. Manuel Santos, Lelund Durond Thompson, Zurin Villanueva and Nik Walker.

Here's how the show is described: "Twelve year-old Pipio hunts for his lost mother among the street-kids, gangs and drug-lords that rule Rio's favelas – the toughest slums in the hottest place on Earth. The boy's search for identity becomes a struggle for survival in this re-invention of Charles Dickens' 'Oliver Twist' set in modern-day Brazil – a colorful, character-filled Carnaval tale presented by the Escola de Samba Foltando!"

Re-Animator The Musical, which will play July 17-22 at the PTC Performance Space, has added a performance July 19 at 11 PM. The production features music and lyrics by Mark Nutter, with a book by Dennis Paoli, Stuart Gordon and William J. Norris.

Directed by Stuart Gordon, the cast includes Emmy Award nominee George Wendt, Chris L. McKenna, Jesse Merlin, Rachel Avery Mark Beltzman, Cynthia Carle, Brian Gillespie, Marlon Grace, Liesel Hanson, Tyler Milliron and Graham Skipper.

Re-Animator, according to press notes, "tells the story of Herbert West, a brilliant young medical student who has created a glowing green serum that can bring the dead back to life. What should be a medical breakthrough results in hideous monstrosities and ghastly consequences. 'I guess he just wasn't fresh enough,' is West's constant refrain as his quest for fresh subjects results in the murders of half the faculty of the medical school."
