The magazine on which the musical is based features numerous "found" items, including love letters, poetry, objects, ticket stubs, birthday cards, all of which allow readers to peek into the lives of strangers. The magazine and the website of the same title have inspired three best-selling books.
Bell (Silence!, Now. Here. This.) and Bolin (Roller Disco) are collaborating on the new musical that will offer a semi-autobiographical account of the life of Found creator, Davy Rothbart, as he performs and travels around the country. It will be workshopped Sept. 21-22 under the direction of Lee Overtree. The Story Pirates, the New York City and Los Angeles-based educational and comedy troupe for children, will perform the piece. Overtree oversaw previous readings of Found at the Actor's Playhouse and Ars Nova.
The Berkshire Theatre Group presentation is billed as a pre-Broadway workshop. No official Broadway announcement of Found has been made. Victoria Lang (Silence!), Benjamin Salka and Eva Price (Peter and the Starcatcher) produce Found. The engagement will have scenic design by Tony winner David Gallo.
Performances will take place at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA. For tickets visit BerkshireTheatreGroup.com.
