Claire van der Boom, seen in HBO's "The Pacific" and CBS's "Hawaii Five-0," steps into the Off-Broadway cast of Sam Shepard's Heartless starting Sept. 18. She'll take over the role of Sally, originated by Julianne Nicholson, whose prior commitments prevent her from performing during the two-week extension through Sept. 30.
Daniel Aukin directs the world premiere of the new play by Pulitzer Prize winner Shepard (Buried Child, A Lie of the Mind, True West). It's part of Signature Theatre Company's season at The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street. Tickets during the extension weeks are $75 each.
The cast currently includes Jenny Bacon, Gary Cole, Betty Gilpin, Julianne Nicholson and Lois Smith.
In the play, according to Signature notes, "Sally lives with her mysterious family in a cavernous home overlooking Los Angeles. When a visitor arrives, Sally's dark secrets — and the secrets of those around her — threaten to come into the light."
Shepard was Signature's 1996-97 Playwright-in-Residence.
The production team includes Eugene Lee (scenic design), Kaye Voyce (costume design), Tyler Micoleau (lighting design), Eric Shimelonis (sound design), Ashley Ryan (hair and make-up) and J. David Brimmer (movement specialist). Donald Fried is production stage manager.
