Loudon originated the role of villainous Miss Hannigan in the 1977 Tony Award-winning musical Annie — a show headed back to Broadway this season with two-time Tony winner Katie Finneran as the evil orphanage supervisor. Loudon took home the prize for Best Actress in a Musical at the 31st annual Tonys.

Her other Broadway credits included Tony-nominated turns in Ballroom and The Fig Leaves are Falling as well as Nowhere to Go But Up, Noël Coward's Sweet Potato, Three Men on a Horse, The Women, Sweeney Todd, The West Side Waltz, Noises Off, Jerry's Girls, Comedy Tonight and Dinner at Eight.

At the 1977 Tony Awards, Loudon was joined by Annie co-stars Robert Fitch, who played her brother Rooster, and Barbara Erwin, who played Lily St. Regis, for a performance of "Easy Street." The Tony performance concluded with Annie's signature song, "Tomorrow," featuring Andrea McArdle and the company.
