The box office will open Oct. 15 for the previously announced West End world premiere of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a new stage version of Roald Dahl's story of the same name. Opening night has also been set for June 25, following previews that will begin May 18, at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
Douglas Hodge, who won a Tony Award for Leading Actor in a Musical for his starring role in La Cage Aux Folles and is currently starring on Broadway in the title role of Cyrano de Bergerac, will return to London to star as Willy Wonka. He follows in the footsteps of Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, who have played the role of the sweet-maker in the two film versions of the novel.
The show is directed by Sam Mendes, with a book by David Greig and new songs from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Sets and costumes are by Mark Thompson and choreography by Peter Darling. It is produced by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Neal Street Productions and Kevin McCormick.
Tickets for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which go on sale Oct. 15, are booking through June 30, 2013. To book tickets, contact the box office on 0844 858 8877 or visit www.CharlieandtheChocolateFactory.co.uk for more details.
