The Meeting* is a monthly "gay romp through politics (sexual and otherwise), social news, music, comedy skits, and other important life-changing information." Each presentation is devoted to a different gay icon. Sayre hosts with various special guests. Adam J. Rosen and Dan Fortune produce the series.
Tracy Stark will musical direct the evening that promises performances from the Jule Styne-Bob Merrill musical. The musical includes such gems as "Don't Rain On My Parade," "People," "I'm the Greatest Star" and "The Music That Makes Me Dance."
Here's how the evening is billed: "Among the classic musicals of the last 50 years, Funny Girl may be among the most iconic - and gayest - with its towering breakout performance by leading lady Barbra Streisand, infectious score by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill and juicy theatrical lore. This edition of The Meeting* will feature songs from this seminal backstage musical, in addition to special trivia."
The past two years Sayre and company have also presented Night of a Thousand Judys, a benefit for the Ali Forney Center in June.
All shows are at 9:30 PM. There is a $10 cover charge and a two-drink minimum. For tickets visit BrownPaperTickets.com. The Duplex is located at 61 Christopher Street at 7th Ave.
