Directed by Signature Theatre artistic director Eric Schaeffer, the musical, a co-production between Ford’s Theatre and Virginia’s Tony-winning Signature Theatre, will also star Edward Gero as Horace Vandergelder. Additional casting will be announced.
"We are delighted to present the first professional production of Hello, Dolly! in Washington, D.C., since the 1995 Kennedy Center production featuring Carol Channing," said Ford’s Theatre director Paul R. Tetreault in a statement. "We are also excited to have Eric directing at Ford’s for the first time since Meet John Doe in 2007."
"I’m thrilled to be working with Nancy on this new production of Hello, Dolly!," added director Schaeffer. "Nancy brings a fresh look and sound to the show which promises to match the rest of this exciting, new production. Both Nancy’s and Ed’s talents, along with those of the terrific cast, will indeed let audiences rediscover this great musical in a brand new way."
Based on Thornton Wilder's 1955 play The Matchmaker, Hello, Dolly! features a book by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. Song titles include "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," "Before the Parade Passes By" and "It Only Takes a Moment."
Tickets start at $18 and are now available for purchase at www.fords.org or by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 982-2787.
