Longing will begin performances Feb. 28, prior to an official opening March 7, for a run through April 13. Nina Raine will direct this new play by William Boyd, an award-winning novelist best known for "An Ice-Cream War," "Brazzaville Beach," "Any Human Heart," "Restless" and "Waiting for Sunrise." Based on two Chekhov short stories, it spins a tale of nineteenth century Russian life both familiar and unfamiliar. When Kolia is invited to visit his oldest friends on their estate in the country he anticipates a pleasant break from Moscow life. But as the comedy of provincial life plays out around him, he finds himself adrift in a miasma of false expectations, missed opportunities and unspoken passions.
