Harris, who also produced Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 as well as the dramas Jerusalem and The Pillowman and the upcoming musical Hands on a Hardbody, told the AP that she has optioned Warren's entire 2,000-song catalogue to be incorporated into a new musical.
The concept is still in the early stages, and a timeline is not currently in place. A writer, director and other creative team members have not been announced.
"We're starting with a blank canvas and the beauty of the development of this process is that we can let our imaginations run wild. We have so many different songs that we can pull from and create a story from so many of her songs that it's just too early to say," producer Harris said. "Obviously we want to put in her more popular songs, but we're not going to do it just to do it. It has to work with the story."
“I greatly admire the incredible shows and performers that have come from Broadway. It has always been a thrill for me to write for musical artists who began their careers on the New York stage and I’m so happy that my songs will be part of a new musical," Warren said in a statement.
