Composer-lyricist Alexander Sage Oyen, who recently released his second album "Drafts (Volume One)," will present a concert of his work Jan. 19 at the new Manhattan nightspot 54 Below. Derek Klena, Ben Fankhauser and Emma Hunton will be among the evening's lineup.
Slated to perform at the 11 PM concert are Klena (Dogfight, Carrie), Fankhauser (Newsies), Taylor Trensch (Bare, Matilda), Hunton (Rent, Spring Awakening), Alex Brightman (Wicked, Glory Days), Corey Mach (Hands on a Hard Body, Godspell), Remy Zaken (Spring Awakening), Matt DeAngelis (Hair, American Idiot), Andrew Kober (Hair), Kennedy Caughell (American Idiot), Noah Galvin (The Great American Mousical), Michael McCorry Rose (Wicked), Lois Sage (John Bucchino's "Grateful" album), composer Drew Gasparini ("Smash"), Jessica Kent, Elanna White, Noah Zachary, Max Chernin and Dan Housek.
The band will feature Charlie Rosen (associate conductor of Broadway's Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) on bass, Jeremy Yaddaw on drums, Ryan Cooper on guitar, Oyen on guitar and piano, and musical director Benjamin Rauhala on piano and glockenspiel.
Audiences can expect to hear highlights from "Drafts (Volume One)," selections from Oyen's musicals Sidekicks and A Night Like This, and tunes from the forthcoming second volume of "Drafts" and debut album "If I Knew Better."
Oyen's Sidekicks was seen as part of the NYMF 2012 Reading Series, and his A Night Like This was produced at Florida State University and Princeton University. He can be heard on Scott Alan's "Live" album and was seen on VH1's "In Search of the Partridge Family."
