Last summer Doers was featured at Ars Nova with a sold-out staged concert of Taking Step Three13, a rock-and-gospel-infused riff on Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment," as part of Ars Nova's Uncharted initiative. Doers is featured on piano for the concert that includes Frank Usamanont on bass, Jerome Jordan on guitar and Ramsey Jones on drums.
The 8 PM concert, billed as Lisa McQuade Sings Matthew Doers, promises "an old school redux of original music and lyrics ranging from soulful ballads to disco glam. Reminiscent of the soulful sounds of the '60s and '70s, these jams are inspired by iconic vocalists ranging from Etta James to Donna Summers, Tina Turner, and Aretha Franklin. Bringing together a classic soundscape of gospel, funk, soul and disco, in a set that's sure to raise the roof on this one night only happening in Hell's Kitchen."
Doers has several musicals in development and penned music and lyrics for HERE network's new variety show "She's Living For This!" starring drag artist Sherry Vine. Doers also served as music director and accompanist for performance artist Joey Arias at the Mexico City's 9th Annual International Cabaret Festival. Recently he authored original music for the New York premiere of the play Love Minus, songs for Poking Kitty Purple and music and lyrics for Celebrate Good Times – Rockin' Macbeth.
McQuade has performed with the all-girl group Bitch; Mother Goddess and also appeared in earlier presentations of Doer's Taking Step Three13, as well as Dee Snyder's Van Helsing's Curse. She performs with the 70s tribute band The Elektrik Company.
Tickets, priced $10, are available at arsnovanyc.com or by phoning (212) 352-3101. Ars Nova is located at 511 W. 54th Street.
