It will also feature Amanda Daniels, who appeared in the original Edinburgh production. It is now newly directed by Ian Talbot.
Based on the plawyright's real-life experiences, it is described in press materials as a story of growing up, dealing with the harsh realities of life and healing old wounds before time runs out. In the play, sisters Niamh and Grace haven’t spoken for a while. They fell out when their mother died, but now Niamh has cancer and wants to talk more than ever. She has given her sister Grace a box of old photographs, and the two sit and reminisce. Dipping back and forth from present day to childhood, the sisters piece their childhoods together like a jigsaw, from the harshness and violence of their upbringing to the exhilarating escape of the dance clubs of the emerging Northern Soul scene.
Stubbs was last seen at Trafalgar Studios 2 in the Donmar Trafalgar season of Salt, Root and Roe. Other recent stage appearances include Orpheus Descending and Private Lives (both at Royal Exchange, Manchester), A Marvellous Year for Plums (Chichester Festival Theatre) and Little Eyolf (Jermyn Street Theatre).
Daniels was last seen on the London stage in Shivered at Southwark Playhouse, and has been seen on TV in "EastEnders" and "Doc Martin."
Talbot was previously artistic director of the Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park from 1987-2007, where he produced some 75 shows. In the West End he last directed Lend Me a Tenor the Musical and starred in Hairspray at the Shaftesbury.
Costumes are by Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (for "A Room with A View"; she has also been nominated a further eight times, most recently for "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" and "The King's Speech"). She also received a Tony Award nomination for Best Costume Design for the play Private Lives.
It is produced by Moya Productions Ltd, who have previously produced Philip Ridley's Shivered at Southwark Playhouse.
