Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre has announced dates of production for the world-premiere musical Secondhand Lions, based on the 2003 film of the same title, which will be presented as part of the company's 2013-14 season.
Earlier reports indicated that Secondhand Lions, which has a book by Tony Award winner Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Curtains) and a score by First Date songwriters Michael Weiner and Alan Zachary, would premiere at the 5th Avenue in August.
"This world premiere musical," according to the 5th Avenue, "harkens back to a simpler time, when a boy’s imagination was all that was needed to turn a summer on a Texas farm into the adventure of a lifetime. The tall tales that his two irascible uncles tell him – stories of heroism, hidden treasures, and beguiling princesses – take our young hero to the sands of Arabia and beyond."
The national tour of the Tony Award-winning revival of Cole Porter's Anything Goes, staged by Tony winner Kathleen Marshall, will run Oct. 15-Nov. 3. Also planned is a resident production of Lionel Bart's Oliver!, which will be staged Nov. 29-Dec. 31.
