Walter Bobbie will direct the musical; Mark Brokaw will direct the Silver play. Another mainstage and lab production will be announced shortly.
The Landing, featuring music by Tony-winning composer Kander and book and lyrics by Pierce, will kick off the season; performance dates will be announced at a later time. The musical, which received a Vineyard lab production last spring, is a "beautiful and haunting new work, consists of three related musical tales of love, loss, obsession, heartbreak… and what it means to get what you think you want," according to press notes.
In spring 2014 the Vineyard will present the Silver work, which is described as "the stirring and funny story of a celebrated actress who, at a time of crisis, with nowhere else to go, descends upon her daughter and son-in-law for a summer by the sea. Her arrival sets off a chain of events alternately comical and harrowing."
The Vineyard Theatre, which is dedicated to the "creation and production of daring new plays and musicals," has been one of the nation's leading non-profit theatre companies for 30 years.
The Vineyard Theatre’s leadership includes Douglas Aibel (artistic director), Sarah Stern (co-artistic director), Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell (executive producer) and Michael Page (general manager).
