PBS "Live from Lincoln Center" will broadcast the New York Philharmonic's acclaimed concert presentation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Carousel on April 26. Playbill.com has a look at highlights from the event.
The musical centers on a tempestuous love affair between gruff carnival barker Billy Bigelow, played by Nathan Gunn (Camelot, Show Boat, Billy Budd), and young millworker Julie Jordan, played by four-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara (The Light in the Piazza, South Pacific, Far from Heaven).
Tony Award winner John Rando (Urinetown, A Christmas Story) directed the Feb. 27-March 2 engagement that featured Rob Fisher (Encores!, Anything Goes) conducting the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Warren Carlyle (Chaplin, Follies) choreographed the concert staging.
