The same-day discount theatre outlet begins the celebration at 11 AM behind the TKTS booth on Broadway and 47th Street, where a proclamation from the City of New York is presented to Theatre Development Fund (TDF) and accepted on its behalf by "The Unofficial Mayor of Broadway," four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.
Following the presentation, the cast of Forbidden Broadway performs a tribute to TKTS written by Gerard Alessandrini, the show's creator.
Julie Halston, known as the "Unofficial Hostess of Broadway," introduces karaoke singers, who perform Broadway songs from the past 40 years. Halston also interviews people in the TKTS line. The day also includes TKTS Patron Service Representatives dressed in costumes from the TDF Costume Collection in the style of shows that have opened on Broadway or have had major revivals in the past 40 years.
TKTS has distributed over 58.5 million tickets to Broadway, Off-Broadway, music and dance events since it first opened for business.
