The Cradle Will Rock (Off-Broadway at NY City Center). Marc Blitzstein's The Cradle Will Rock, the inaugural show of New York City Center's new Encores! Off-Center series, includes Danny Burstein, Eisa Davis, Raúl Esparza, Peter Friedman, Judy Kuhn, Martin Moran, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Anika Noni Rose, Henry Stram, Aidan Gemme, David Margulies, Michael Park, Robert Petkoff and Matthew Saldivar. The Cradle Will Rock, with music, lyrics and book by Blitzstein, is described as "a powerful political satire and an extraordinary piece of theater history. Set against the backdrop of a steel strike and peopled with fat-cat capitalists, brutal policemen, heroic union organizers, and a warm-hearted prostitute, Blitzstein's 1937 battle hymn to the proletariat feels remarkably fresh." Carla Gugino and Peter Grosz star in the LCT3 production of Daniel Pearle's Laurents/Hatcher Award-winning play A Kid Like Jake, about a young boy with a passion for Cinderella and playing dress up. According to LCT3, A Kid Like Jake is "the story of a husband and wife trying to do right by their son. Alex (Gugino) and her husband, Greg (Grosz), want only the best for their precocious four year old, Jake. When they apply to New York City private schools, part of what makes Jake special – his passion for Cinderella and dress-up – starts to cause concern." Visit LCT.org.
