Following Accidental Death, Cirque du Soleil's K Will Resume Performances

Following the accidental death of performance artist Sarah (Sassoon) Guyard-Guillot, who died June 29 from falling approximately 90 feet in the Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas production of , performances will resume July 16 at 7 PM.  

According to a statement on Cirque's official Facebook page, "The decision was made after a two-week evaluation and in agreement and consultation with the artists and staff of the production.  will be presented without the 'Battle Scene' act. This act has been replaced with a transition artistic scene, 'The Dressing-Ritual,' that will maintain both the storyline of production and its 90-minute running time."

The July 16 performance will be dedicated to the memory of Guyard-Guillot. 

As previously reported, Guyard-Guillot, 31, fell during the final scene in which performers engage in an aerial battle while wearing safety harnesses attached to a cable. The performer, a citizen of France and resident of Las Vegas, died from multiple blunt force trauma.



Details surrounding the June 29 accident are still under review by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and their report on the matter may take up to six months before it is released. 

According to an earlier press statement from the Clark County Office of Coroner/Medical Examiner, "The manner of her death was accidental. The Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is continuing the investigation into how this accident occurred. The OSHA investigation could take up to six months to complete."

"I am heartbroken," said Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté in a previous statement. "I wish to extend my sincerest sympathies to the family. We are all completely devastated with this news. Sassoon was an artist with the original cast of since 2006 and has been an integral part of our Cirque du Soleil tight family. We are reminded, with great humility and respect, how extraordinary our artists are each and every night. Our focus now is to support each other as a family."

A revised performance schedule follows: July 16 at 7 PM, July 17 at 7 PM, July 18 at 7 PM and July 19 at 7 PM. Late-show performances for July 16 at 9:30 PM, July 17 at 9:30 PM, July 18 at 9:30 PM and July 19 at 9:30 PM have been cancelled.
