"Downtown Abbey" star Elizabeth McGovern, who was Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated for her role as Cora, Countess of Grantham, will appear with her band Sadie and the Hot Heads at London's Hippodrome Casino on Nov. 14, 21 and 28.
The American-born McGovern, who is now based in the U.K., made her professional debut in Robert Redford's Oscar-winning "Ordinary People," before starring in Milos Forman's "Ragtime," for which she was herself Oscar-nominated. Other films include "Once Upon a Time in America," "Bedroom Window" and "She's Having a Baby." She has also regularly appeared on stage in the U.K.
Sadie and the Hotheads were born in 2007 when McGovern took guitar lessons and was encouraged to write her own songs. After a collection had been composed, her teacher Steve Nelson introduced her to his brother Simon, who started recording the songs and put together a band of musicians to support the project.
In a press statement, McGovern commented, "Your 'Sadie' is that thing inside you which makes you unique. Everyone has it.”
The band’s debut album "I Can Wait" was released in 2007, with their second album "How Not to Lose Things" released last year. Since the latter's release, the band has toured the U.K. and has appeared at the Isle of Wight festival (for the second year running), Cornbury Festival, Wychwood Festival and have secured nine nights at Edinburgh's Fringe Festival and a prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival slot opening for Sting. They are due to headline a second U.K. tour in the autumn, which will see them play these three consecutive Thursdays at London's Hippodrome Casino.
