Members of the original cast of Hands on a Hardbody will perform at the East 86th Street Barnes and Noble Sept. 4.

The performance, which will be accompanied by a CD signing, will take place at 7 PM.

Inspired by the 1997 documentary of the same name about a group of Texans competing for a pickup truck, Hands on a Hardbody began previews at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre Feb. 23 prior to a March 21 opening. The show played its last performance April 13.

Here's how the producers billed the fact-inspired musical: "For ten hard-luck Texans, a new lease on life is so close they can touch it. Under a scorching sun for days on end, armed with nothing but hope, humor and ambition, they'll fight to keep at least one hand on a brand new truck in order to win it. In the hilarious, hard-fought contest that is Hands on a Hardbody, only one winner can drive away with the American Dream."

The Tony Award-nominated score, written by Amanda Green and Phish frontman Trey Anastasio, featured blues, folk, gospel and R&B music. The album, which will feature a cut song from the show called “The Tryers” as a special bonus track, will be released Aug. 27.

The cast recording will feature Keith Carradine (The Will Rogers Follies), Allison Case (Hair), Hunter Foster (Little Shop of Horrors), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Catch Me If You Can), David Larsen (American Idiot), Jacob Ming-Trent (Shrek the Musical), Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone (Tales of the City), Mary Gordon Murray (Into The Woods), Jim Newman (Curtains), Connie Ray (Next Fall), Jon Rua (In the Heights), Keala Settle (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Dale Soules (Hair), Scott Wakefield (Ring of Fire) and William Youmans (Wicked).

Hands on a Hardbody was nominated for three 2013 Tony Awards: Best Score (Green and Anastasio), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Carradine) and Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Settle). The book was by Doug Wright, and the production was directed by Neil Pepe, with musical staging by Sergio Trujillo. Carmel Dean was the musical director and vocal arranger.

The show's Tony-winning design team included scenic designer Christine Jones (American Idiot), costume designer Susan Hilferty (Wicked), lighting designer Kevin Adams (Spring Awakening), sound designer Steve Canyon Kennedy (Jersey Boys), with orchestrations by Trey Anastasio and Don Hart.
