The thing that has made me most proud of my identity as a gay man was when I became that most basic of things: a father. The journey to becoming a parent was difficult for me because I had internalized a very pernicious form of homophobia. I didn't think that I was allowed to be, that society would allow me to be a parent because I was gay. But being a parent, a gay parent, has turned out to be my favorite role ever.Continued...
