Here, via email, we hear from Rebecca Henderson, who co-stars in the Roundabout Underground production of Too Much, Too Much, Too Many, a new play by Meghan Kennedy that is currently playing the Black Box Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Centre for Theatre.
What show recently impressed you?
Fun Home at The Public. I read the book and loved it, and I wondered how it would come to life, and when I saw it, I thought Sam Gold’s staging was genius; I loved so many things about the production. Also, I was shocked that I'd never seen a lesbian on stage before — not a lesbian that looked like that anyway — and that in itself was totally awesome and very moving for me.
What production are you most excited to see?
When I'm not in a show myself, I see probably two or three shows a week, so there are a lot of shows I’m excited to see in the new year—but I'm really looking forward to The Realistic Joneses by Will Eno (Sam Gold again); I love Will's plays and have been obsessed with Toni Collette since "Muriel's Wedding." I can't wait to see her on stage. Also, The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence at Playwrights Horizons.
I would like to revive Boeing-Boeing with Mark Rylance! And, I want to play Gretchen (Mary McCormack played the part when I saw it and totally killed it—she was awesome). I saw it twice; the second time, I sat in the front row and could see them cracking each other up. I laughed so hard watching the show, I actually wept. There was something profoundly beautiful and magical about laughing my face off with 1,000 other people; it was so pure.
What are your current/upcoming projects?
I am doing Too Much Too Much Too Many by Meghan Kennedy at Roundabout until January, and in early March I start Your Mother's Copy of the Kama Sutra at Playwrights Horizons, directed by Anne Kauffman.
