London's Union Theatre to Revive John Kander and Fred Ebb's The World Goes 'Round

London's Union Theatre will revive the John Kander and Fred Ebb revue The World Goes 'Round, with performances beginning Jan. 15, 2014, prior to an official opening Jan. 17, for a run through Feb. 8 only.



Drawing on Kander and Ebb's scores for shows that include 70 Girls 70, The Happy Time, The Rink, The Act, Woman of the Year, Chicago, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Zorba, Cabaret and Flora, the Red Menace and the films "New York New York" and "Funny Lady," The World Goes 'Round premiered at Off-Broadway's Westside Theatre in 1991.

Kirk Jameson's new production will feature Lisa Stokke (who originated the role of Sophie in the U.K. world premiere of Mamma Mia!, and has previously been seen at the Union in The Baker's Wife and Assassins), Simon Green (recently seen in Titanic at Southwark Playhouse, and also recently on national tour in The Phantom of the Opera) and Gareth Snook (recently seen in The Phantom of the Opera in the West End and previously seen in the original London productions of Kander and Ebb's The Rink and Sunset Boulevard).

Also in the company are Emma Francis, Susan Fay, Elliot Berry, Gabrielle Allen, Genevieve Leeney, Charlotte Oakley and Shahail Woodcock.

Jameson, who has previously directed Dames at Sea, Once upon a Mattress and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever at the Union, is joined by Sam Spencer-Lane as choreographer, with musical supervision by Richard Bates and musical direction by Michael Riley. It is produced by Sasha Regan for the Union Theatre.
