10 Feb 2012
The Tony Award-winning production of The Phantom of the Opera—Broadway's longest-running musical—celebrates its 10,000th performance Feb. 11 at the Majestic Theatre. In celebration of the musical milestone, we thought we'd take a look back at Phantom, which features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Charles Hart.
Phantom opened on Broadway Jan. 26, 1988. That year the production won Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Actor (Michael Crawford), Best Costume Design (Maria Björnson), Best Direction (Harold Prince), Best Featured Acrtress (Judy Kaye), Best Lighting Design (Andrew Bridge) and Best Scenic Design (Björnson). Here is the Tony performance featuring Tony winner Crawford and Sarah Brightman.
