The show has also previously toured to New York's BAM and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Written by Jonathan Bate and directed by Tom Cairns, it sees Callow bringing Shakespeare's characters to life as well as the real man behind the legend.
Callow was the recipient of The Stage Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Theatre at the 2013 UK Theatre Awards. His recent theatre credits include Inside Wagner's Head (Lilian Baylis Theatre at the Royal Opera House and Theatre Royal Plymouth), and Dickens' A Christmas Carol (at the Arts Theatre).
Other stage credits include Peter Hall's National Theatre production of Twelfth Night and Pozzo in Waiting for Godot with Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Ronald Pickup at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket. His many film appearances include "A Room with a View," "Maurice," "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Shakespeare in Love" and "Christmas Carol: The Movie." TV credits include "Rome," as Charles Dickens in an episode of "Doctor Who" and Tom Chance in the series "Chance in a Million."
Bate is a Shakespearean biographer and editor of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s "Shakespeare: The Complete Works." He is Provost of Worcester College and Professor of English Literature at Oxford University and is a Governor of the Royal Shakespeare Company. His books also include "The Genius of Shakespeare" and "Soul of the Age: The Life, Mind and World of William Shakespeare."
Lighting is by Bruno Poet and music and sound by Ben and Max Ringham. It is produced by Ambassador Theatre Group.
