According to press materials, this may be because they are too old, or too young, or the wrong sex, or not the right race, or too blonde or not quite the right shape. But for West End Recast, there are no boundaries! "You can be who you are and sing what you want. The sopranos can sing bass, the boys can be girls and juniors can be seniors."
The line-up is set to include Tony winner Frances Ruffelle (Epinone in the original London and Broadway productions of Les Miserables) and Tony nominee Jenna Russell (for reprising her London performance as Dot/Marie in the Broadway transfer of the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Sunday in the Park with George).
Also in the cast will be Simon Bailey, Daniel Boys, Rebecca Brewer, Martin Callaghan, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Holder, Leon Lopez, Laura Pitt-Pulford, Jon Robyns and Emma Williams. Shows represented will include Wicked, Sweeney Todd, Rent, Dreamgirls and La Cage aux Folles.
Further casting is still to be announced. It will be directed by Adam Lenson, whose credits include directing the European premieres of Ordinary Days, Little Fish and Saturn Returns, and has also been an associate director for Merrily We Roll Along, The Color Purple and Road Show (all at the Menier Chocolate Factory, with the first transferring to the West End's Pinter Theatre), Race (at Hampstead Theatre) and The Duck House (at the Vaudeville).
