Tony Award winner Laura Benanti, who was seen in the short-lived NBC drama "The Playboy Club," has been cast in the NBC comedy pilot "Go On," according to Deadline.com.
As previously reported, the project is written by Scott Silveri ("Friends"), who will executive produce with Karey Burke and the pilot's director, Todd Holland. The cast also includes Matthew Perry ("Friends"), Julie White (The Little Dog Laughed), Khary Payton, Allison Miller and Suzy Nakamura.
"Go On" centers on a sportscaster (Perry) who tries to move on from loss and finds comfort among the members of his group therapy sessions. Benanti will play Lauren, the leader of the support group, and White will play Anne, a feisty and recently widowed woman stuck in the anger stage of grief.
Benanti, most recently on Broadway in a Tony-nominated turn in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, won the Tony Award in 2008 for her performance in Gypsy. She has also been seen on Broadway in The Wedding Singer, In the Next Room, The Violet Hour, Nine, Into the Woods, Swing! and The Sound of Music.
