The East Coast premiere of Somewhere, a dance-filled piece by Matthew Lopez (The Whipping Man) about a Puerto Rican family in 1959 New York City, opens at Hartford Stage April 11 following previews that began April 3.
Featuring original music by Tony Award winner Bill Sherman and choreography by Greg Graham, Somewhere continues through May 4.
Here's how the production is billed: "In 1959, West Side Story is storming Broadway, and a movie version is on the way. It fuels the show-business dreams of Inez Candelaria (Lopez), who works as an usher but hopes that her children will succeed on the other side of the footlights."
Somewherefeatures scenic design by Donyale Werle, costume design by Amy Clark, lighting design by Philip Rosenberg and sound design by Jason Crystal. Lori Lundquist is production stage manager.
