Directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt, the production will continue through July 6.
The cast will feature Emmy winner Tim Daly as Mark Rothko with Charles Socarides as his assistant Ken.
Red, according to press notes, "is a play about renowned artist Mark Rothko at the peak of his career. It captures the dynamic relationship between an artist and his creations."
"The play asks audiences an important question: What do you see when you look at a work of art? What is art? Who gets to decide anyway?" Dina Janis, DTF’s artistic director, said in a statement.
The limited engagement will also have lighting design by Michael Giannitti, scenery by John McDermott, costumes by Charles Schoonmaker and sound design by M.L. Dogg.
