Has it been 20 years already? Apparently so: Timothy Childs and Roger Hess are planning a 20th anniversary revival of Annie starring Nell Carter (Ain't Misbehavin') as Miss Hannigan.
Spokesman Peter Cromarty confirmed a published report that the tour is scheduled to open in Houston Nov. 26, but said he had no information about which theatre, or other stops on the tour. A spokesman for Theatre Under the Stars in Houston said he'd heard unconfirmed rumors that the tour would play there, but said he knew of no signed contracts to that effect. The production is being considered for a Broadway opening in 1997.
The Tony-winning musical introduced a Charles Strouse/Martin Charnin score that includes "Tomorrow," "It's a Hard-Knock Life," "I Don't Need Anything But You" and "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile."
Charnin will again direct the show, and Peter Gennaro will recreate his choreography.
The touring production is separate from the Goodspeed Opera House revival planned for later this year, though Charnin is directing both productions.
