Horton, meet The Green Bird. Seussical star Kevin Chamberlin (with Saved director Robert Woodruff) attended the Saved opening night Feb. 25 alongside a smattering of Green Bird alumni - Ned Eisenberg, director Julie Taymor and Didi Conn. Theatre for a New Audience, producers of Saved, also first staged The Green Bird.
When Saved first opened in London in 1965, the dark working class drama sparked a controversy for its brutal depiction of young bored Londoners stoning a baby. This central event causes the play's loner protagonist, Len (Pete Starrett), to realize that he could have stopped them, a realization powerful enough to make him feel saved.
